Pining for the Fjords is my first and only effort so far as a leader and composer. Eleven tunes were recorded out of which eight made it officially onto the CD. The recording featured young, talented Montréal musicians: Kelly Jefferson-sax, George Nakaidze-piano and Shawn Abedin-drums. The recording was engineered by André White, one of Canada's foremost record engineers specializing in jazz.

The music is original yet it's standard jazz. My musical influences are broad but I'd like to say that Keith Jarrett Trio playing jazz standards and John Scofield's groups featuring Joe Lovano influenced me a lot so you'll probably find some similarities to these groups on this recording.

Besides that studio session we had played around Montréal with this repertoire and after moving to Toronto I had led different quartet formations in jazz clubs. I'd enjoyed writing and playing these tunes and had received a lot of positive comments from fine jazz musicians and non-musicians alike, who have heard them. I have written enough tunes now for another recording. I hope it can be realized in-not-to-distant future.

The graphic art and photos were made by my brother Andrzej. Here is the CD jacket art:
